Japanese car makers have ascended the auto manufacturing industry ladder to become one of the most formidable car companies in the world. One such company is Mazda. Today, Mazda as a brand is making waves and runs along the same league as major car brands like Nissan, Honda, Mercedes and Toyota. The company offers a wide range of car makes from small, fast and unbelievably reliable cars, to SUV’s, and trucks.
But one area where Mazda has etched a name for itself is in the sport car niche of car making. The company is now a recognized powerhouse when it comes to the creation of small, fast and sporty cars that offer drivers a thrilling experience that is not only top-notch but is also efficient and precise when it comes to handling. Of all its sport car versions, like the Miata, and the 3 and 6 sedan models, the RX and MX models are without a doubt some of the best and fastest. In this article, we will be discussing three specific models. These are the MX-5, The RX7 and the RX8.
The MX-5 Miata GT
The Miata is a longtime bestseller had has been through a couple of evolutionary processes over the years. Today, the Miata is found in the form of the MX5 Miata, a Grand Touring Edition – the newest and sleekest version. The MX-5 boasts a 0-60mph time of 6.9 second – and while this is not the quickest along the Miata line, it is mighty close and is still good enough. The MX-5 packs a 167 horsepower, 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder engine. And while this engine does not bring the most speed or power to the table, it does offer an ample dosage of fun behind the wheel.
The Mazda RX-7
Of all vehicles Mazda has made over the years, the RX-7 is without a doubt way ahead of the pack when it comes to performance. For instance, the RX-7 is able to reach 60 mph from 0 mph 0.8 seconds faster than all other models – doing 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. The success of the RX-7 model has led to there being a variety of variations and trims of the version. However, the standard version still holds its title as one of the fastest Mazda models to date. The 255 horsepower Mazda was able to reach top speeds of 155 mph. However, production of the RX-7 was ended in 2002.
The Mazda RX-8
The RX-8 is another quality Mazda model that is considered to be a winner when it comes to performance and efficiency as a sports car. The sporty car is able to reach 60 mph from 0 in just 6.3 seconds. While this is nowhere near the RX-7, the RX-8’s performance is still good enough and the car still proves it is a force to reckon with. Under its bonnet is a 247 horsepower engine that produces 164 pound-feet torque. As such, the RX-8 is able to reach a maximum of 150 mph, making it one of the fastest Mazda models in the market.
